Kai Hansen is a filmmaker, cinematographer, and writer based in Los Angeles who is skilled in many facets of production, pre-production, and post-production - from lighting/DOP work to camera operation, directing and color grading. His most recent film, Downstream, was selected for screening in competition at the Twin Falls and Butte Film Festivals, and won Best Horror at Butte.Â
Kai's style skews towards the naturalistic, with emphasis on space that allows characters to breathe and feel truly alive. His stories are interested in what it means to live and work with others, ranging from supernatural horror to understated drama and unexpected and surreal comedy.
When he isn't on set or crafting production spreadsheets, Kai enjoys sports such as basketball and whitewater rafting, sketching with a pen or the trackpad on his computer (necessity is the mother of invention), and reading science fiction classics.
