Kai Hansen is a filmmaker, cinematographer, and writer from Humboldt County, California who is skilled in many facets of production, pre-production, and post-production - from sound mixing, to camera operation, to directing and color grading. His most recent film, Downstream, has been nominated for five awards at the Butte Film Festival, and he is currently working on his senior capstone film to complete his degree at Oberlin College and Conservatory.
Kai's style skews towards the naturalistic, with emphasis on space that allows characters to breathe and feel truly alive. His stories are interested in what it means to live and work with others, ranging from supernatural horror to understated drama and unexpected and surreal comedy.
When he isn't on set or crafting production spreadsheets, Kai enjoys sports such as basketball and whitewater rafting, sketching with a pen or the trackpad on his computer (necessity is the mother of invention), and reading science fiction classics.
